Bali

The distant call of a cockerel signals morning. The sun not quite risen, but darkness is receding.

Arriving into Bali yesterday we started our journey to Ubud through a chaos of scooters, trucks and cars, horns sounding, passengers on scooters carrying lengths of timber on their shoulder, another with a huge suitcase wedged between the driver and them. Wending through villages, taking shortcuts along narrow backroads all executed by our beautiful driver - Ketut!

A glimpse of local life. Simple old shops lining the streets, timber sculptures, twisted and smooth stretching skyward, street food, enormous stone figures.

Offerings lay on the ground along the footpath, in driveways. My gaze rises to a spaghetti tangle of cables, the conduit of power through Bali, I am amazed at the simplicity.
